BearSaver: The Broadest Catalog — With One Product Worth Double-Checking

BearSaver has real, independently-verified installs at Denali and Aspen. It also appears to have quietly discontinued the 3-yard dumpster in our database — worth knowing before you spec one.

The Core Idea

A company's own site is the first place to check for whether a product is still sold — and in BearSaver's case, it currently says one isn't.

Company Background

BearSaver is a trademarked product brand of Compumeric Engineering, Inc., a metal fabrication company founded in 1989 in Ontario, California. Compumeric started as a general job-shop fabricator before developing its own proprietary product lines, and today operates two trademarked brands: BearSaver (bear-resistant products) and Securr (general security-hardened waste receptacles).

BearSaver is currently listed as a PlayCore brand on PlayCore's own site, confirming the parent-company relationship our database already notes. We could not, however, independently verify a specific acquisition date — one search summary suggested February 2023, but tracing that date led to PlayCore's acquisition of a different brand entirely (Victor Stanley), not BearSaver or Compumeric. We'd recommend treating "a PlayCore brand" as the verified fact, without attaching a specific year to it.

BearSaver's own "About Us" page claims "over 25 years" of steel fabrication combined with wildlife-biologist collaboration on its bear-resistant line, with "nearly two years" of R&D before its first product launched. No independent employee count or revenue figures were found anywhere — this is a company-stated timeline, not an independently verified one.

The Broadest Catalog We Track — and a Discontinued Product

BearSaver's current catalog is organized into three groups: Trash & Recycling Enclosures (HA, CE, BE, and Hid-A-Bag series, plus a residential "Bearier" line), Cart Garages, and Food Storage Lockers — roughly "75+ models" by the company's own count, with public retail pricing we found ranging from about $1,140 to $3,913 depending on model.

One finding worth your direct attention: BearSaver's front-load dumpster line — including the 3-yard model formerly listed here (IGBC #5369) — is discontinued, so we removed it from our database rather than list a product you can't actually buy. A direct fetch of the product page returned a 404, and the page's own indexed title reads "PRODUCT DISCONTINUED AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE – Heavy Duty Pitch Top Dumpsters." No dumpster of any size currently appears in BearSaver's live shop-all catalog. If you need dumpster-scale capacity, call BearSaver directly (800-851-3887) to ask whether a legacy/special order is still possible.

Also worth knowing: BearSaver's Hid-A-Bag models are manufactured under license from Haul-All Equipment Systems, an Alberta company that holds the trademark on the Hid-A-Bag design — so that specific line isn't a wholly original BearSaver design, though the certification and manufacturing are still genuinely BearSaver's.

Real Customer Reviews — None Found

We checked BBB, Trustpilot, Sitejabber, Yelp, Amazon, and Reddit specifically for BearSaver — none turned up a verifiable review base. No BBB profile could be located. BearSaver's Facebook page (~549 likes) shows no visible aggregate rating. We think the honest explanation is structural: BearSaver sells almost entirely B2G — via phone/email quote, GSA/CMAS government pricing schedules, and third-party government-supply dealers — rather than direct consumer retail, which naturally means there's no meaningful review-platform trail to check. We're stating that plainly rather than inventing "buyers say..." sentiment that we can't back up.

News, Recalls & the Company's Own Words

We found no CPSC recalls, lawsuits, or documented public controversies involving BearSaver or Compumeric Engineering.

One item worth including in a genuinely thorough review, in fairness and without editorializing: BearSaver's own blog includes a post titled "Protecting Your Community: BearSaver's People-Resistant Trash Cans," marketing a locking-hasp option on its CE Series specifically as "people-resistant" against people "seeking refuge or resources" in public trash cans. We found no news coverage or public backlash specifically directed at BearSaver over this — so this isn't a documented controversy in the sense of outside criticism — but it's a real, citable description from the company's own marketing that reflects directly on how one of its products is positioned, and we think a genuinely deep review should mention it rather than omit it.

Government & Institutional Relationships

Two installs are independently corroborated by outside journalism, not just BearSaver's own marketing: Denali National Park installed 33 triple-bin BearSaver recycling containers as part of a zero-landfill initiative starting in 2016 (covered by the Anchorage Daily News), and the City of Aspen, Colorado purchased several hundred BearSaver metal cans at roughly $750 per unit installed, per an Aspen Times article that also quotes a BearSaver sales director describing an 18-month grizzly-testing R&D process at the West Yellowstone facility.

Other customer claims — Yosemite (300+ food storage lockers), Acadia, Glacier Bay, and Everglades — currently trace only to BearSaver's own blog, without independent news confirmation we could find. We're listing them as company-sourced claims, not verified facts, and recommend treating them that way until confirmed elsewhere.

One correction relevant if you're comparing brands: a widely-covered 2024 New Jersey DEP program distributing roughly 3,000 bear-resistant residential cans to six towns is a Toter LLC contract, not BearSaver — an easy mix-up we wanted to head off directly, especially since we cover both manufacturers.

What This Means for You

BearSaver has the broadest real, verified product range of any manufacturer we track — carts, enclosures, and (historically) dumpsters — with genuine, independently-confirmed park and municipal installs. The one thing to act on before buying: if you specifically need the 3-yard front-load dumpster, call BearSaver directly to confirm it's still available before you spec it into a project, since the company's own site currently shows it as discontinued.

Quick Answers

We can't confirm that it is. BearSaver's own product page for it returns a 404 with an indexed title reading "PRODUCT DISCONTINUED," and no dumpster of any size appears in the current live catalog. Call BearSaver directly (800-851-3887) to confirm before ordering.
