We Didn't Invent a Bear Test. We Just Found the One That Already Exists.
Short version: real wildlife agencies already test products on real bears and publish who passes. That information was just scattered and hard to find. So we gathered it into one place, in plain English.
A live, hungry bear. Sixty straight minutes. Real food inside. That test already happens — we just went looking for the products that have actually passed it.
The Problem We Saw
Almost anything can call itself "bear-resistant" or "bear-proof." Those words aren't protected by law — a company can print them on a box whether or not anything was ever tested. Real tests do exist. Government wildlife agencies actually put bears in a room with a product and see what happens. But the results of those tests live in dry government lists and PDFs, not anywhere a normal person shopping for a trash can or a cooler would ever think to look.
So most people end up guessing — based on the price, a word on the packaging, or a review that might not even be real. We built this site to close that gap: take the actual, official test results and turn them into something you can use in five minutes, not five hours of searching government websites.
What We Actually Do
In plain terms: we check two real testing programs. One tests products against grizzly bears — it's run by a group called the IGBC, which is wildlife agencies from the U.S. and Canadian governments working together. The other tests products against black bears instead, since they're a different animal with different strength and behavior — that program is called WMI/SEAFWA. Neither test can be bought or faked; a product either stops the bear or it doesn't.
Every product on this site has a real certification number from one of those two lists — checked by us, directly against the official source, not taken on a manufacturer's word. When we couldn't verify something, we say so directly instead of quietly leaving it out or guessing.
How We Keep It Honest
Nobody can pay to rank higher.
We're not owned by, paid by, or affiliated with any manufacturer, the IGBC, or WMI/SEAFWA. Every product appears here because of a real certification number, listed alphabetically — not by who paid the most.
No made-up numbers, ever.
No 1-to-10 scores we invented, no 'editor's choice' badges, no fake review counts. If a fact isn't verifiable, we either mark it clearly as unconfirmed or leave it out — we don't fill the gap with a guess.
Real photos only.
Every product photo is pulled directly from the manufacturer's own site. Never AI-generated, never a stock photo standing in for the real thing — the site's decorative background images are the only AI-generated art here, and none of them show an actual product.
