What this checker covers
It searches 218 confirmed entries and 399 unconfirmed entries, copied line by line from the IGBC's Bear-Resistant Products document dated October 22, 2026. It also matches the WMI/SEAFWA black-bear locks and covers we track. The IGBC tests against grizzly bears; the WMI/SEAFWA program is a separate black-bear program with its own list. Read more in our certification explainer or browse the full confirmed list.
Questions
Not necessarily. The number may have a typo, belong to a different program such as WMI/SEAFWA, or be newer than the October 22, 2026 lists. Ask the seller for the number printed on the IGBC document and compare it with the IGBC's official list.
The IGBC contacts manufacturers each year to confirm their certified products are still made to the tested specifications and still sold. Products whose makers have not completed that step go on a separate list. The IGBC says these are still considered certified.
No. The IGBC states that it does not decide which products meet food or garbage storage regulations. Each land manager, city, or HOA sets its own requirements.
Only for the black-bear locks and covers we track. For anything else on that program, use the Wildlife Management Institute's own approved-products page.
